Apps

I expected that apps would be one area where the iPad would blow away the Surface. I've actually been pleasantly surprised at how many apps are available for the Surface. In fact, my kids refuse to use the iPad due to the lack of Fresh Paint! And I far prefer IE10 on the Surface to Safari on the iPad.

The one huge app miss on the Surface? Facebook. There are some unofficial Facebook apps, but they suck, especially compared to the fantastic official app for the iPad. I cannot understand this. Didn't Microsoft buy a stake in Facebook?

Anyway, the Facebook website does load nicely in Internet Explorer on the Surface, so I can still get my Facebook fix.

Another minor app-related quibble is that the Surface version of the Kindle app doesn't have the same "page flipping" effect as the iPad version, so it's sometimes hard to tell whether I've actually turned to the next page or not.

Really, aside from those two items, I'm very happy with the apps available for the Surface.
