Very long story on why our Surface RT's took so long to arrive... regardless, we're now the proud owners of two of them!
First impressions? It's a nice device. It addresses my single biggest complaint about the iPad, namely the lack of user profiles. And my second biggest complaint, namely all the "gestures" to switch between apps. (On the Surface, you trigger special "stuff," like switching between apps or the Charm bar, by swiping from the black screen border onto the screen. This is more intuitive, and works far more consistently than the iPad trying to figure out if I'm swiping with three fingers or four.) And my third and fourth biggest complaints, namely the lack of a USB port and lack of an external keyboard -- although to be fair, I haven't used the USB port at all yet, and the included keyboard is going to take some getting used to.
Our kids (ages 5 and almost 3) love it.
All that said... there is just something about it. It doesn't feel quite as "smooth" as the iPad, for lack of a better term.
I'm guessing this is what Mac users feel when they use a Windows PC. I get it now.
